- What stands out from this writing?
One thing that stood out was the inclusion of performance art as installation art. the essay suggests that because these performances or "happenings" were site specific they were temporary installation. The essay also emphasizes public engagement as key to installations as well as them being site specific. while I do think installations tend to be site specific in how they is space I don't think I 100% agree that public engagement is key.
- What could be added to this writing?
The essay just dumps titles of pieces and names of artists but never explains what an installation is. While it provides plenty of examples of what installation can be it never defines installation art. there are also no artwork descriptions.
- When was the first installation work created?
the essay identifies Duchamp's "Boîte-en-valise" as the first installation but it does not give a date. It also says that 1960's are when installation art becomes its own category in contemporary art.
