Fabian Sight Specific

4/11/23

I have thought about more possible locations and what I can do. that would be more sight specific. One location is at the Laramie animal shelter. That is where I got my Dog IzzI. I would like to talk to them about possibly working in the space where IzzI was held in the kennel. I would use brighter colors to represent a happy significant moment for myself and for IzzI. Possibly incorporating some kind of time stamp when I adopted IzzI.

Another location that I would like to possibly do the sight specific is Coal Creek as I spend a lot of time there, studying, relaxing, destressing, and meeting people. for this location, I would speak with the people if it would be fine to make my piece there and I would keep it small scale.

Additionally would be a location that is near where I live. as moving to that location was a life-changing moment, and starting to grow and discover on my own.

without my piece enclosed, it has a whole different feeling and aesthetic. If I do fully decide to make something like this underneath the walk-over bridge I will have to do a test of how the colors match and feel at the location by taking my existing forms. this will also give me a feel for the available space and how I can refine my forms.

I am also thinking about possibly using another material that is easy to work with, does not break the bank, and can be easily transported.
- Fabrics is an option as I have experience working with fabrics and sewing, only issue that I have is what will I stuff it with, and what can I have inside the forms to help hold its form.

My second question is does it have to be this big? or can the same be achieved if it were smaller and connect to the wall and roof? but how would I connect it to what will not damage the structure?

Another option that I can do is add more to the forms that I currently have and add much smaller curves/vines-like things. that way I have a base to connect too

yet another option is to use a shallower spot in the same location so I can then make the pieces smaller.

this is one of my sketches. at one of the locations. The relocation is at the cross-over bridge downtown. As shown above I would like to create more forms like that of my installation piece and place them underneath the bridge. However, since this is an open area and I'm not going to enclose it I have to first stabilize the forms so that they can stand on their own. I would then add weight to the bottom so that they are not easily blown over. I would like to keep the same color scheme as that of the installation piece, but will most likely have to change the coloration to fit with the surroundings and or contrast with the surrounding of which the black already stands out since its really dark and the surrounding area is lighter in color.

4/3/23

To start off, I want to have a continuation of the forms I created for my installation piece. I want to create at least 2 more. I want to take these pieces to several locations and set them up for people to interact with. but also I want to see people's responses to the forms. Because I want to take it to different locations and see people's reactions and effects of the locations this seems more like a performance piece. Additionally, I would refine the 3 forms that I already have like widening the base so that it can stand on its own and so that I can add weight to them at the bottom to Anker them down and also hold them upright. I was also thinking about having a different color for the additional forms I create.

This location is by Coal Creek. It is one of my favorite coffee shops. I was thinking about asking the people inside coal creek if I can place a few of the forms inside, probably the smaller ones as they take up less space. and have the bigger forms on the outside by the bike rack, or outside tables of Coal Creek. I would not leave my form unattended and not leave the forms at the location for long an hour max unless I'm getting good interactions with my forms, and with permission.

The location is at the walkover cross-over bridge downtown for the images above and below. Similar to Coale Creak I want to place the forms on the bridge and below the bridge. I may also snapshots of my pieces to make it seem like they are moving and traveling down the ramp and finding a location to settle. Again I want to watch how people would interact with my piece.

The location of the photo above is at the Walmart open field area. I would like to spread out my forms so that you look throughout the whole field. this would also make people interact by trying to see how many of the forms they can spot and make them wonder if there are more elsewhere. What I can also do is to try and camouflage the forms with the surroundings so that they are subtle to see and find.

Similarly would be another location that has an open area by The Social.

Lastly would be at a park (forgot the name of the park). I would like to have my forms interact with trees and "grow" with the trees. This can also make it seem like the forms are invasive and beginning to take over. Another way to play along with the invasiveness would be the place the forms on the branches. Without harming the tree of course.

Another location that I have in mind would be a junkyard which would play into the fact of waste and toxins, but I'm not sure a junkyard business would like that. so I can make it seem that a new life form is coming from what is considered waste or junk. As of the moment, I do not have photos of that.

  1. Hey Fabian,
I really like the idea of using that spot for your work. My only concern is that you will have to contact the railroad in order to use that spot because it is owned by them. You could contact the local office. I was also interested in the color choice, why black and green?

    1. Ya that would be a good idea to get into contact with them to see if I can do my project there. As for the color it is temporarily a place holder, I would like to change it, but I don't know what I want to change it too. And I currently only have black and that lime green. I can have it blend in with the surrounding colors or I can have it contrast to its surroundings so that it is prominent. do you have any ideas in what colors I can use?
