This is a bridge on the greenway. I think it would be a great place to install bright colored cutouts of invasive species along the greenway. This color would draw the eye especially now since everything is still brown and it would call attention to invasive species in Wyoming.
I was thinking about playing with light in this dome thing at Washington park. I think it would be fun to use a light and cutouts to project things onto the ceiling especially with its shape. This would be relatively un-invasive- also would be a good opportunity to play with sound.
I was thinking about using one of the pavilions at Washington park since you can reserve them. These pavilions always make me think of birthday parties so I think it would be funny to do like the aftermath of a birthday party with a half eaten cake and deflated balloons.

For the site specific I have a few ideas for location. I was considering going up to vedawoo or tie city area- given the time this is due there may be less snow. while technically you are not allowed to build things on national forest land if the installation is not up permanently I could definitely get away with it especially if I use natural material that I find in the area. I was also considering using some space in Washington park. Like doing an installation in one of the picnic pavilions or the white dome like amphitheater that is in the one corner of the park. This would allow more freedom with materials used. Also since you can reserve the pavilions it would probably not cause any issues as long as its not up permanently. There is also the free wall that is on 3rd street so I was also thinking of doing something there sine its free to the public and I wouldn't have to worry about any legal issues.

Lately I have been focusing on reading for the research for this project and Pulled some quotes from Lee Edelman's book "No Future: Queer Theory and The Death Drive".
“The embrace if queer negativity then, can have no
justification if justification requires it to reinforce some positive social
value, its value, instead, resides in its challenge to value as defined by the
social and thus in its radical challenge to the very value of the social
itself”- Edelman
“the death drive names what the queer, in the order of the
social, is called forth to figure: the negativity opposed to every form of
social viability” Edelman
The concept for the materialistic instillation instAllation is centered on the concept of social death that affects marginalized populations- Edelman's response to social death is to embrace queer negativity as a way to combat social norms that create the conditions for social death. So what does that look like in art? How would a deconstruction of social norms be represented? I think the first Edelman quote encapsulated this by the idea that in order to embrace queer negativity you have to embrace that there is no positive social value associated with it. My instAllation ideas center the uncomfortable aspects of death with their representation of decapitation therefore embracing the lack of a positive social value.

This one is very interesting as an idea Ki.
This idea would be a stuffed fabric head on layers of red fabric- the fabric would have beading to add to the texture as well as catch the light and give it a glistening effect like a pool of liquid would have- I might also play with adding in embroidered text on the red fabric so the viewer could lean in closer and engage with the details. the red fabric would cover most of the floor of the gallery so the viewer would have to walk around the installation.
Do you feel like you have time for this? Remind me to show you some of Diana's piece that might help in this endeavor so you are not trying to make all of this from scratch.
I like the way Anthony Gormley's piece doesn't allow the viewer in very close- even while there are a lot of small details you are forced to peer at them from a distance. I would like to imitate that with this idea with having the viewer forced against the walls of the gallery but have text embroidered around the severed head- if you strain your eyes you can see the text- its like being let in on a secret.
This idea would be a stuffed armature and head. the head and body are separated with enough space for someone to walk between them. I would make to body look more like a large human sized doll then an actual person. the head would be on a small pool of blood made out of layered reed fabric.
with this idea the body is sitting in the corner of the gallery sort of slouched over while the head is on a small pool in the opposite corner of the gallery. again both the head and body are more doll like then realistic but they would be human scale.
I like these stuffed figures by Jakob Lena Knebel and Ashley Hans Scheirl which was part of Austria's installation at the Venice Biennale

This is my current progress. My plan is to make five of these embroidered panels to cover the walls of the gallery- I might add a head on the floor of the gallery depending on how it looks after the embroidered panels are done.
The textile panels will explore
a narrative between two figures inspired by Gender
Trouble by Judith Butler and Feminism Interrupted: Disrupting, Power
by Lola Olufemi. In her book Olufemi clarifies a common interpretation of
Butler’s work “Butler is often misquoted as claiming gender is a ‘performance’
when instead she argues it might be better to view it as a ritual that is made up
of certain kinds of repetitive behaviours that sediment over time”. If gender
is a ritual, then there must be a ritual to the existence in between or the
transformation in between. The literal narrative in the imagery is of the human
figure getting decapitated. Figural imagery in the panels will be more
abstracted focusing on shape and texture of the materials. This takes
the imagery out of a literal sense with a stronger emphasis on the metaphorical
narrative of decapitation. the human figures head is the most gendered aspect
of its design. Without the head the body takes a more neutral space. Removing the head from the body of the figure removes the largest
signifier of gender from the figure, a death of the feminine. Heads hold a lot
of symbolism especially with how people talk about queer individuals and non
cis gender identities. These identities are often associated with that person
“being confused” or “they’ve lost their head”. Which ties into the literal
aspect of the narrative. The white ghost like figure has a nimbus tying into
religious imagery- like the liturgical tapestries. This figure is a witness to
the decapitation.
Nicely written KI- finally!!!!! :)
This is an installation by Malgorzata Mirga-Tas. She was the artist representing Poland at the Venice Biennale and the walls of the pavilion were all covered in this large quilt she made.
Both of these photos are an installation in one of the pavilions at the Venice biennale-

Tau Lewis-Love this work! Tell me more about this artist...
For this piece the inspiration comes from an outdoor installation by Christo and Jean Claude. It was a bunch of orange fabric gates hung up on trails in central park New York. For this one I would use a sheer fabric and colored lighting from behind.
Ki talk about that piece of Christos and Jean Claude's. Why did they use that color and that fabric in that park? How do these facts relate to what you are doing inside a space vs outside?
Look at:
This Piece is inspired by the "Dinner Party" by Judy Chicago and a book I just read "In the Dream House" This piece would explore the significance of place and setting in memories focusing on the dinner table.
This installation would have a mirror on the floor and then beads, string, and thin strips of fabric from the top that would reflect onto the mirror- I would want to block off the top of the installation in some way so that the only way to see the top is through the reflection in the mirror.
Talk about these ideas. Why make them? What can they communicate to the viewer or what could we get from them? Attach images of artist research that is labeled.
